Russia will need 10 years to create a super-heavy launch vehicle
Next year, the state corporation Roscosmos will return to the development of a super-heavy launch vehicle. The start of work on the creation of a rocket capable of launching over 100 tons of payload into orbit began in 2018, but was suspended. On Cosmonautics Day, Vladimir Putin instructed the head of Roscosmos to begin work in this direction.
Yuri Borisov said that design work will begin in 2024, and the creation of a new rocket will take about ten years. At the Tsiolkovsky International Film and Space Film Festival, he said that without such a carrier it would be impossible to seriously talk about flights to the Moon and, in general, about a new level of deep space exploration.
The head of Roscosmos said that Russia is 5-6 years ahead of competing countries in the field of nuclear space energy. Already by 2030, it is planned to build a nuclear space tug "Zeus", which can be used as a cleaning of orbits from space debris. Borisov also reported on advanced developments in the field of optical instruments for space satellites. According to him, in the near future, Russian optics "will even allow us to determine the number of stars on shoulder straps."
He also announced a new set of cosmonauts to be sent to the orbital station and for the development of manned astronautics. For information and analytical support of the safety of activities in outer space, Yuri Borisov announced the start of work on the Milky Way project. This federal project was approved by the President of Russia, its main goal is to track space debris in orbit. It will include 65 telescopes and a constellation of specialized monitoring satellites. The project will be completed by 2035.
