Work on the creation of the national orbital space station is ahead of schedule. The head of the state corporation "Roscosmos" Yuri Borisov told the President of Russia during a personal meeting on Cosmonautics Day.

At the moment, work on the creation of a draft design of the station is being completed, but its main parameters and stages of creation have been determined. The first block of the future Russian orbital station is also practically ready. It will be the scientific and energy module, which was created for the ISS, but will be used in the interests of the domestic program. Roscosmos has big plans for a new space station. In the future, it will become a base for the study of near space, as well as for the study of the moon.

The preliminary design will be ready this summer, but today the main parameters and appearance of the station, the stages of its creation are already well known to us. A new orbit, a new radiation environment will allow us to go deeper and master those Technology, which will be necessary for deep space, in particular for the lunar program. This is one of the advantages of the new orbit of the Russian station

After the launch of the scientific and energy module into orbit, other elements of the future station will begin to dock to it. The second stage will send the nodal and airlock elements into space using the Angara-5M launch vehicle. The first of them will become the center for further construction of the complex, and the second will be used for spacewalks for astronauts.

It is expected that no later than 2028, Russian cosmonauts will start working on the domestic orbital station. In order not to interrupt manned launches of spacecraft, the operation of the Russian segment of the ISS has been extended for just such a period.

Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of developing space projects in the Russian Federation and congratulated all industry workers on the holiday.
