In the United States, the appearance of protective visors on the TOS-1A "Solntsepek" was appreciated

During the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for more than a year, drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been dropping on machinery RF Armed Forces ammunition or crash into them, exploding. But before it even started, Moscow was taking action to preemptively counter the threat posed by UAVs and ATGMs being supplied by the West to Kiev, adding metal grills to vehicles to stop munitions before they could cause damage.

According to him, for the first time it was recorded that the Russians began to install protective grilles (visors) on their equipment in November 2021. Then the T-80 tanks lit up. After that, the Ukrainians began to test the Javelin ATGM against static targets, equipped with similar designs. According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the results were not encouraging for the Russian Armed Forces, but in the summer of 2022, the Russian Federation sent old T-62 tanks with improved visors to Ukraine.

It now appears that Russia has added protective grilles (visors) to its TOS-1A thermobaric multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). Ukraine destroyed one, damaged another, and captured four more such launchers, according to OSINT group Oryxspioenkop, who only report the status of weapons systems that they can confirm visually.

- describes the publication of the appearance on social networks of a photograph with "Solntsepekom" "behind bars".

The publication notes that, given the devastating effect of the use of CBT, it is not surprising why Ukraine arranged a hunt for them. However, the likelihood that the new type of visor shown provides reliable protection is doubtful, although some Russian tanks did survive attacks with similar designs on their turrets.

If a whole batch of missiles flew into the TOS-1A launcher, it would be a very bad day for everyone who was nearby. And while such visors are useless against anti-tank guided missiles and large airborne munitions, they can provide some level of protection against small bombs dropped from commercial drones. The visor also does not protect against side attacks from other weapons.

- summed up the media.

With "visors" is still better than without them! It is possible that the army craftsmen would have done better, but they might not have the right materials! It is necessary to connect to this topic Steel Research Institute! And so ... if you take into account the booking of the guide package, then such a visor will come in handy! (You can probably lower the visor onto the "ends" of the guide package! ... Raise it before the salvo ...) And I've been talking about tank-type KAZs for "particularly valuable" equipment for a long time!

I, too, have recently been interested in thinking that it would be necessary to cover the equipment from drones with something.
well, such a visor as in the photo looks weak. although it is better for test designers to know what types of shells it can withstand in order to secure the shooter, it is generally easy to imagine that such covers could be made much higher, wider and stronger. the main thing is not to interfere with movement. but if there are such places where powerful protective structures could interfere with the passage, then it would be possible to make them temporarily removable, or adjustable as needed. you can even come up with some kind of special equipment designed specifically for the full-fledged shelter of other equipment with powerful protection, such as a truck trailer only super-armored. huge titanium box. maybe if super-super-armored, then even tanks could be carried under it under shelling. it would be cumbersome, slow, but what the hell can you do. so as not to have to break through in horror through the shot places.
probably all sorts of different protective structures can be developed a lot for different situations, in order to use what is needed on occasion. it could be a whole branch of the military-industrial industry. an additional task for the brains of inventor constructs.
and also if we are talking about protection from air strikes from some kind of drones, then it seems that for any valuable equipment there should be accompanying air defense and electronic warfare equipment. make a special station on wheels, the task of which is to protect the nearest equipment from most threats, and to carry it along with everything else wherever necessary, if something of value.
Well, these are my layman's fantasies. how it is actually done and what is profitable xs) but it seems rather strange when there is dynamic protection on tanks, and means of electronic warfare, and air defense, but at the same time, a lot of expensive equipment is still unprotected even from banal drones that suffer from them.

The first defense against drones is camouflage, if the Armed Forces of Ukraine are engaged in camouflage on the advice of NATO members to the fullest, then we practically do not engage in camouflage systematically, only in an amateur way in some places. For example, creating an additional protective visor, at the same time disguise the Sun, it is better beyond recognition with additional devices, even to merge with nature (For example, downhill landscape, etc.) After all, many lives of fighters depend on this. This is the prerogative of the command of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as a customer, but, as elsewhere, flaws and incompetence. Regarding the protective visor, if at least how much it protects against ammunition from light drones (PTAB, etc.), then of course they are needed.
