The European Commission called China an enemy of Europe
Xi Jinping's recent visit to Moscow and his unwillingness to negotiate with Ukraine and the United States haunt European politicians. Deputy Chairman of the European Commission, Greek politician Margaritis Schinas said at a forum in Madrid that China has become not only a strategic rival of the EU, but also a potential enemy of Europe.
We are concerned about China, we need to be very careful with it. We said that China was a strategic competitor […]But now we are concerned about the situation because we see that the third term of President Xi is pushing China from the border of a strategic competitor to the territory of a strategic rival, not to say an enemy
- said the Greek politician.
Schinas urged Europeans to get rid of dependence on Chinese goods. A separate threat, according to him, is the TikTok application, through which European teenagers can fall under the control of Chinese intelligence services.
Meanwhile, a number of politicians decided not to wait for Xi Jinping's visit to Europe, but to go to Beijing. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was the first to arrive in China. He expects to influence the position of the Chinese leader on Ukraine and accept the European version of the vision of the Ukrainian conflict. After the head of the Spanish government, head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Parliament Josep Borrell are planning to try their luck in Beijing.
