Russian oilmen switch to settlements in euros

Rosneft has announced to foreign oil consumers that it will set fines for late payments related to the sanctions of the European Union and the United States. Following it, similar decisions were made by Surgutneftegas and Gazprom Neft. In addition, these three Russian companies notified buyers of their intention to abandon dollar settlements and switch to the euro. This news Reuters news agency reported.

Russian oil companies believe that the imposition of sanctions against Russia cannot be considered a good reason for delaying payments for oil supplies.

Particularly heated debate is caused by the discussion of the terms of contracts for the supply of fuel for the next year. After all, oil companies are trying to compensate for the risk of new sanctions, and Western buyers are not willing to take these risks on themselves. Therefore, in the negotiation process, it is necessary to seek compromise solutions.

Surgutneftegas has already notified its customers about the upcoming transition from dollars to euros. Gazprom Neft also recommended using the European currency for settlements. At the same time, both companies said that foreign buyers would incur possible losses associated with anti-Russian sanctions.
