USA cross across Syria

Russia invited the UN Security Council to adopt a statement on the ceasefire in Syria and the establishment of humanitarian pauses. However, the United States impedes Moscow’s efforts.

The document, a draft of which was distributed among the UN Security Council members, concerns support for the recently adopted resolution No. 2401. The very one on which Sweden and Kuwait originally insisted and which was adopted on February 24 with the Russian amendments. The Russian draft calls on behalf of the UN Security Council to implement this resolution. It also contains paragraphs on concrete steps towards a ceasefire, in particular, on the need to “ensure the safety of declared humanitarian corridors for evacuation from East Guta”.

In addition, Russia proposes to open similar humanitarian corridors in the Et-Tanfe area for refugees from the Rukban camp. Another initiative is to send a special mission to Raqqa to assess the humanitarian situation in this city.

However, the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, said that the American side is doing everything possible so that the statement on behalf of the Security Council chairman, a draft of which was proposed by Russian diplomats, was not accepted.

The Americans introduced amendments that, in fact, have nothing to do with our draft presidential statement

- said Nebenzya.

The diplomat added that the American proposals are "not amendments, but a new statement."

The Russian Permanent Representative also commented on a message to the UN sent by militants of the “Syrian opposition” groups in Eastern Ghouta. They are supposedly ready to expel the members of Jebhat An-Nusra, Al-Qaeda and Kheyat Tahrir al-Sham (terrorist organizations banned in Russia) from there.

Moscow, according to Nebenzie, would like to receive clear guarantees in this regard from “external patrons of the militants,” including UN Security Council member countries. Members of the Security Council should together “see how to effectively neutralize the Jebhat Al-Nusra and other terrorist organizations. Wherein

You must understand that terrorists remain the legitimate target of military operations, and will not stand on ceremony with them

- the permanent representative specified.

The United States can be understood to some extent: they are not profitable for Russian proposals regarding the exit of civilians from East Guta (and how then will the terrorists shout about the deaths of children at the hands of Damascus and Moscow?), Nor about the humanitarian corridor in At-Tenf - the Syrian region where, under the pretext of fighting ISIS (banned in the Russian Federation), the US military is training militants of the "moderate opposition."

Washington’s initiative is also unpleasant for Russia’s initiative to test the humanitarian situation in Raqqa, which is being held by US-controlled “democracy fighters”. Suddenly, in the course of such an audit, facts will be revealed that are too clearly saying that it does not even smell like a struggle with ISIS, much less any democracy in Raqqa? But it is felt for many miles - it smells of the corpses of civilians killed during American airstrikes delivered without a UN Security Council mandate.
