Why the US is afraid of supplies of Su-35S and S-400 to China

Today, China is one of the largest importers of Russian weapons and the main partner in the Asian region, so special attention is paid to its orders in Russia.

Dmitry Shugaev, director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) of Russia, said in an interview with Russian journalists that deliveries to China of Su-35 fighters and S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems will be completed in full by the end of 2020.

The FSVTC Director noted that both contracts will be fulfilled on time and they will not be affected by US sanctions against China. Recall that the US Treasury under the CAATSA sanctions law introduced restrictive measures against the Central Military Council of the PRC. The adoption of the sanctions was due to the fact that China is buying from Russia complexes S-400 and Su-35.

According to official figures, arms exports to China account for 15% of all orders in the field of military-technical cooperation of Russia.

Currently, China has already received 14 Su-35S aircraft out of 24 ordered. As for the contract for the purchase of S-400 air defense systems, the information is secret and the composition of the transaction is not disclosed.

The US’s anxiety about the Russian-Chinese partnership in the military-technical cooperation is understandable: in addition to the fact that China is not a party to the RMNS agreement and possesses these missiles, it also has the most advanced Russian air defense systems and Su-35S fighters, which leave the Americans no chance in the region .
