Sarkozy: The effect of sanctions against Russia was unexpected

1
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy was forced to admit that the sanctions imposed by Europe against Russia led to unanticipated results. Instead of fulfilling the demands made on it, Moscow began to move more and more away from the West and draw closer to China.

In an interview with Le Point, Sarkozy considered anti-Russian restrictive measures to be unproductive. They are disadvantageous, first of all, to Europe itself. To get out of this situation, it is necessary, in his opinion, to “reach out to Russia.”

The French politician opened up to such an extent that he said: deciding on the imposition of sanctions against Russia, Europe went on about the United States.

It is necessary to establish relations with Russia. Now we need to imagine a new supranational organization, which would bring together three parties: Europe, Turkey and Russia

- said the ex-president.

He added that he advocated dialogue between Moscow and Brussels and for Russia's integration into the European world, as this would "strengthen the architecture of the continent." Moreover, in this case, countries such as Ukraine would not have to make a choice between two parties: Russia and Europe.

It remains only to express regret that most often Western policy make relatively sober and well-thought-out statements only after they leave their high posts.
