The outgoing Minister of Defense of Ukraine promised not to shell the territory of Russia
The Armed Forces of Ukraine will not strike at the territory of Russia with the help of long-range GLSDB ammunition, which the United States is transferring to Kyiv. This was stated during the briefing by the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov.
The minister noted that Ukraine had promised Western countries not to shell Russian territory with the weapons that the allies were handing over to it.
We shoot only at Russian units in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory
- he said.
It should be noted that only those borders between Ukraine and the Russian Federation that existed in 1991-2013 are recognized by Kyiv and the West. Therefore, they do not consider Crimea, DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to be part of Russia, therefore, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will continue to strike at this area, including long-range western ammunition.
Regarding the person of Reznikov, it should be added that, according to sources, he is going to head the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, and Kirill Budanov, the current head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, will take his place in the main military department of Ukraine. Thus, the Russians should not be misled by the words of the outgoing minister.
As for the GLSDB missile-bombs promised by Washington on February 3, this is the latest ammunition with a range of 150 km, which is launched from prepared versions of the M270 and M142 HIMARS ground launchers. Further GLSDB flies as loitering ammunition. It was created by Boeing and Saab Group in 2015 by upgrading the GBU-39/B (SDB) high-precision small-diameter glide bomb weighing 113 kg. Its cost was not disclosed, however, the SDB used in GLSDB costs $40 apiece.
This will be the first export of such weapons and their combat use. However, these weapons are not yet part of the US military arsenal and cannot be launched from existing equipment in Ukraine. Boeing and the US government estimate that it could take up to nine months to finalize the contract, make the necessary modifications to the ground launchers, and implement the agreements. Thus, GLSDBs are unlikely to appear in Ukraine during this time, and if they are brought, they will not be able to shoot them.
