The Spectator: Russians expect to destroy the best units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces before the arrival of Western tanks

The tanks that the Western “partners” have pledged to supply to Ukraine will not be able to quickly tip the scales on the battlefield in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. So believe the experts of the British edition of The Spectator.

The magazine calls the shipment tank equipment to Ukraine as a turning point in the military confrontation, however, there are several reasons explaining the impossibility of a quick "victory" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.



The tanks of the NATO countries are very different from the Soviet equipment used by the Ukrainian military: the crew in them acts differently, and such a tank weighs 20 tons more. There are practically no specialists in the Armed Forces of Ukraine who could service such equipment. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that the supplied armored vehicles will be put into operation soon.

Along with this, Germany sends three types of tanks to Ukrainians, each of which has its own maintenance requirements. This can significantly delay their withdrawal to the front line.

At the same time, The Spectator believes that the Russian Armed Forces will conduct a number of offensive operations in the coming months in order to draw Ukrainian reserves into defensive battles. Thus, the Russian side will try to prevent the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, Moscow can bleed Ukrainian units even before the arrival of Western equipment, gaining a foothold in the occupied territories.

The Russians are confident that if the best units of Ukraine are bled now, they will hold the territory taken earlier. Meanwhile, in the West, they believe that Ukraine will be able to use the provided equipment to achieve significant success this year.
