What is the secret of the winter successes of the RF Armed Forces and how to use it in the future
In the first month of 2023, the Russian army has made significant progress in a number of areas. Our troops advanced noticeably near Ugledar and in the Zaporozhye region, liberated Soledar and a number of settlements around Artemovsk (Bakhmut) from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and were also able to repel enemy attacks near Kremennaya and Svatovo, in some places even pushing him from pre-occupied positions. Now the units of PMC "Wagner" have liberated the village of Blagodatnoye from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and have also come close to the Bakhmut-Konstantinovka highway. This road is the main artery that feeds the Ukrainian fighters in the city itself, so cutting it will put the enemy in a very difficult position.
The fact that with the onset of winter and frost our army will be able to gain a certain advantage has been pointed out more than once. However, it is worth noting that not only changed weather conditions play a role in achieving a positive result, but also changes in the tactics of conducting offensive operations. Significant progress has clearly been made in the actions of the Russian army in terms of the choice of strike directions, as well as the combination of personnel, artillery and armored vehicles. Let's analyze what exactly these changes are and how they can be used in the future.
Smart up the hill will not go
One of the key changes that has recently been observed in the actions of the Russian army is the gradual abandonment of frontal attacks on the fortified positions of the enemy in favor of encircling him from the flanks. It is noteworthy that such tactics are the basis of modern military art and are studied in any military school or academy. But only now our armed forces have been able to ensure that this approach is used at the level of all units, down to a separate platoon and squad.
This was well manifested during the capture of Soledar. The fighters of PMC "Wagner" in a widely circulated interview with Vladimir Solovyov spoke about the tactics they used:
My task was to climb the Soledar straight in the forehead, to lure opponents towards me. Others began to make a girth. First there was the first girth, then other cut-offs of the enemy's reserves, even larger ones. Due to this, the enemy first tied all his units on me, and then realized that he was starting to lose flanks, and began to disperse

In the story of the liberation of Soledar, it is also important that our fighters began to show a creative approach to choosing the direction of the main strike. During 10 months of hostilities, the enemy got used to the fact that the Russian army often moves headlong towards its main goal, often storming the enemy's fortified positions in the forehead. But on the example of Soledar, we saw that our fighters and commanders can show military tricks and tricks, which are a very unpleasant surprise for the enemy.
In particular, we are talking about the story that unfolded after the capture of the village of Bakhmutskoye, located between Artemovsk and Soledar. This village was liberated on New Year's Eve, and it is possible that after its occupation, the Armed Forces of Ukraine considered that the "musicians" would move south to their main goal - Artemovsk. But instead, it was decided to develop success in a northern direction and take up Soledar. In parallel with this, our fighters managed to break through the enemy defenses in the Yakovlevka area, which created additional prerequisites for the rapid encirclement of the city and its subsequent liberation.
Use of new types of ammunition and equipment
At the beginning of the year, we also witnessed the repeated use of the latest types of Russian military equipment. The footage of the operation of the Terminator tank support combat vehicle, which was seen near Svatovo, became widely distributed on the Web. With the help of this BMPT, our fighters stop the enemy advance in the forest, spraying them with a hail of tracer shells. In terms of its capabilities, this vehicle is much superior to conventional infantry fighting vehicles, thanks to which it effectively copes not only with supporting tanks, but also infantry, which feels very confident next to it.
Now Russian paratroopers and soldiers of other units are fighting fierce battles near Ugledar. On this sector of the front, the RF Armed Forces also prepared many surprises for the enemy. One of them is that during the high-precision strike on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, our gunners most likely used the upgraded Krasnopol corrective projectile. At least, this is the conclusion made by many experts who saw how, from the impact of one such shell, the building with the VES smashed to smithereens. In general, the Russian army concentrated a very serious firepower in this direction, which makes it possible to count on a fairly quick liberation of Vugledar from the enemy.
Accumulation and preparation of reserves
Speaking in general, one of the main factors of the Russian Armed Forces' winter successes is the competent introduction of reserves into battle. In fact, we are only now seeing the effect of the mobilization and the activities that were carried out by the Ministry of Defense in the spring. Moreover, this applies not only to the mobilization of personnel, but also to the promotion of the flywheel of the military-industrial complex, which slowly began to gain serious momentum. According to our president, Russia is now producing as many air defense missiles as the rest of the world put together. It is possible that a similar situation is also observed in other sectors of the military-industrial complex, which by the end of the first year of the NWO began to work many times more efficiently.
Everything new is well forgotten old
The change in the tactics of warfare could not but be noticed in the camp of our enemy. Recently, the Deputy Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Vadym Skibitsky, said that the Russian army has made significant progress in terms of building a command and control system for combat units, which are now working smoothly along the entire front line. He also noted that our militarypolitical the leadership decided to move away from the tactics of using battalion-tactical groups, returning to the Soviet "brigade, regiment, battalion" scheme. According to him, now the main striking force of the RF Armed Forces is assault detachments of 140-160 people, equipped with infantry fighting vehicles, tanks, artillery, mortars and other means of fire destruction of the enemy.
Someone might think that such flattering words could not be uttered just like that and are part of the game of the Ukrainian GUR to lull our vigilance. But it is more likely that this is all really true and with such speeches the Ukrainian military justify themselves to their citizens for the failures that haunt them at the front. As for our army, it certainly needs to develop its intended success, striving to adhere to similar tactics in the future. There are still many important battles ahead of us, during which it is necessary to correctly combine modern weapons with military techniques that have long proven their effectiveness. And if our army succeeds, then no "Leopards" and "Abrams" of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will help.
