A native of Russia debunked the myths of the American army

6
There are enough immigrants from Russia and the former republics of the USSR in the United States of America. They are, of course, also in the power structures of the country - from the army to the police. At one time, General John Shalikashvili, now a late descendant of Russian emigrants of aristocratic blood, even held the post of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. But our compatriots serve in the American army today.

Matthew is already over forty. He ended up in the American army twenty years ago when he came to the United States on a green card and decided to start life from scratch in a new place. The best way for an emigrant who does not have money and connections is through army service. A strong and athletic guy, Matvey was accepted into the US Army without any problems.

By the way, there are no serious requirements for the physical form of recruits in the American army, especially when it comes to "ordinary" troops, not special forces. So, from a recruit they are required to squeeze out 11 times, then, as they stay in the training unit, the requirements increase.

Russian people are initially a greater collectivist by nature and easier to endure all kinds of restrictions and hardships. Therefore, service to Matvey was easy from the very first days. The initial training school for an American soldier lasts eight weeks. During this time, the recruit receives the basics of military training, mastered in the army team. Americans, by the way, worry much more about the conditions of service than emigrants from Russia or other former Soviet republics.

It is worth noting that many Americans from poor families in recruiting for service are guided solely by material considerations. Recruiters promise recruits fabulous money, great social opportunities - and the American "provincials" are being led, come to the service, and everything turns out completely different from what they imagined. Unlike the Americans, the Russians have no special illusions about military service.

The bulk of American recruits are youth from 19 to 23-25 years old. People over thirty, as well as completely "green" guys 17-18 years old, are found among recruits much less often. In the "combat" units, where soldiers are assigned after training, the conditions of service are already harsher. Matvey, for example, had a chance to get distribution to the fleet. And on the ship, as the man recalls, they fed much worse than in the training unit, and they had to sleep in three-tier beds.

By the way, the opportunity to make good money in the American army is more a myth than a rule. Private at the beginning of the service receives about $ 1600 - not so much for the United States. It is almost impossible for a person born and raised abroad to advance in the service of senior officers. This, of course, does not apply to the children of emigrants, who are already much more among the generals and admirals. Therefore, you should not tune in to a serious military career in the American army, not being a native American. Serving in ordinary positions — either for the “poor”, or for those who need a mark on the service for further career advancement “in civilian life”.

The article is kutsev. As an example, I can recommend the funny film "generation of killers". There, army idiocy is shown at the level
