The Headquarters of the Donetsk People's Republic's territorial defense announced the liberation of the village of Podgorodnoye near Artemovsk, where fierce battles are currently taking place. The settlement is located south of Soledar.

As of January 11, 2023, on the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic, the RF Armed Forces liberated Podgorodnoye

- the message says.

Also, the city of Marinka in the DPR came under almost complete control of the Russian armed forces, as Denis Pushilin, the acting head of the DPR, announced on Soloviev Live. However, at the moment the enemy is entrenched on the outskirts in the residential sector.

Almost already a settlement under our control. Nevertheless, on the outskirts, the enemy managed to gain a foothold in the residential sector, a few buildings. This makes an imprint on the timing of the release of this settlement.

Pushilin said.

The Ukrainian military, meanwhile, reports that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are suffering heavy losses in Soledar. The fact that a serious and critical situation has developed in the city, where fierce battles are now taking place, was told to CNN by a Ukrainian soldier from the 46th airmobile brigade, located in the combat zone. The interlocutor of the publication said that the number of fallen soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is so great that no one even "counts the dead." According to him, buildings under fierce fire pass from one hand to another.

No one will tell you how many dead and wounded there are. Because no one knows for sure. No one. Not at headquarters. Nowhere. Positions are constantly captured and intercepted

- said the soldier.

At the same time, he believes that Ukraine will have to surrender Soledar, and "everyone understands this."

Why die if we leave it today or tomorrow anyway?

- concluded the soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The capture of Soledar opens the way for Russian troops to Artemovsk, Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. The occupation of cities will allow destroying the defensive line of the Ukrainian army.

Formerly Advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine Oleksiy Arestovich saidthat the capture of Soledar by the Russians is a “private propaganda success” and will not bring “any benefit” to the RF Armed Forces. According to a representative of the Kyiv authorities, the liberation of the city "will not change the overall picture" of the hostilities.
