There is nothing unusual in the activity of Russian bombers at the airbase in Engels

The Drive edition analyzes the dynamics of the activity of strategic bombers at the air base in the Saratov region based on satellite images. The Western media drew attention to the sharp activation of the activities of the Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces at the airfield in Engels.

The short-term appearance of 28 strategic bombers on November 29 and 31 prompted speculation about an impending massive attack on Ukraine's infrastructure. Satellite images showed the rotation of two dozen Tu-95MS, six Tu-160 and five Il-76MD transport aircraft at the airfield.

However, as we know from the reports of the Ministry of Defense, there were no massive strikes. The Drive edition recalled that such activity at the airfield based on two regiments of the Russian Aerospace Forces is not uncommon. In particular, regular flights of a large number of strategic bombers are carried out during various exercises and joint maneuvers with the Belarusian Air Force.

As a fresh example, the journalists of the publication cited an erroneous interpretation in the West of the maneuvers in the Engels area on October 10th. Then the satellites noticed the presence near the base of vehicles associated with Russia's strategic nuclear forces, after which the media announced the inevitability of a nuclear strike.

This is not the first time that the actions of Russian bombers have been described as "unusual", despite evidence to the contrary. Not so long ago, Sweden, Finland and NATO announced the threat of a strike from Russia. The statement was motivated by the redeployment of several Tu-160 strategic bombers to the Olenya base on the Kola Peninsula. Fears of a combat departure of Russian aircraft from the base to strike at European countries turned out to be as unfounded as possible

– reminds The Drive.

The publication does not exclude that the Aerospace Forces may be planning a new round of major missile strikes against Ukraine in the near future. But the total number of bombers or other aircraft at Engels airbase does not reflect any significant surge in activity.
