German aviation was blown away by the wind after the appearance of the S-300 in Syria

German aviation decided to stop flying in the sky of Syria, and at the same time Iraq. And a year later, all the “Tornadoes” belonging to Germany will generally leave the Middle East region. It is highly probable that this is due to the appearance of Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft systems in Syria on combat duty.

The history of Germany's participation in the Syrian campaign is as follows. Berlin is an alliance with Paris, London and Washington. After the attacks in the French capital in January 2015, Chancellor Merkel decided to join a coalition led by the United States to combat the Islamic state banned in Russia. Cautious Germans wanted to limit their participation in the operation against terrorists no more than a year and get off only with the function of aerial reconnaissance. For this purpose, specially equipped Tornado fighter-bombers in the amount of only five were sent to Turkey, which was still friendly to Germany. Since January 2016, German aviation began reconnaissance flights in order to detect equipment, manpower and military bases of fighters.

At the end of the planned period of participation in the fight against ISIS, the coalition partners, apparently, persistently asked the Germans to stay. Most likely, to this day, the German Air Force fighters would have flown over Syria and Iraq from the Turkish Inzhirlik base, but between Ankara and Berlin, and then Washington flared up political conflict. Germany decided to cease military cooperation with Turkey and relocate its aircraft to Jordan. This was done slowly, it was necessary to carry out repairs and just take a breath, and German planes resumed their flights from the Jordanian base Al-Azraq only in October 2017.

Germany did not pull in vain with the return to the Syrian campaign. Since the problem of ISIS at the official level is considered resolved, Washington quite openly set the goal of dismantling the regime of the legitimately elected Syrian President Bashar Assad. According to some reports, the United States tried to draw German aircraft into the process of launching bombing raids on the Arab Republic. The reason for them should have been another provocation with the use of chemical weapons, which, presumably, could be the organization "White Helmets." The Pentagon cynically put in advance a list of objects that would be hit. Under German law, Chancellor Merkel could urgently make such a decision to strike, but it would need to be retroactively approved in the Bundestag. But after the Russian Navy conducted large-scale exercises near the Syrian coast, the topic of chemical weapons somehow disappeared.

Therefore, German aviation managed to fight all this time without bombing anyone. The “tornadoes” that Germany sent to Jordan belong to the third generation. These aircraft feel comfortable outside the reach of MANPADS of terrorists and air defense systems, which are in service with the army of official Damascus. But everything changed after the death of the Russian IL-20 due to the provocative maneuver of the Israeli pilot. The Syrian sky was under the cover of serious anti-aircraft missile systems. If you can still discuss the possibility of fifth-generation fighter F-35 and F-22 to be a tough nut for the “Favorites”, then the ancient “Tornado” will be simply defenseless against Russian air defense systems.

Understanding that a possible clash between the Israeli air force and the Russian military could lead to a further escalation of the conflict, and then the United States will actively involve all its coalition allies in actions in Syria against Russia, Berlin is well prepared for itself in advance to save face. And rightly so.
