India and Russia: friendship grows stronger in spite of the West

The meeting between Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as expected, brought positive results. Indian Minister of Trade and Industry Suresh Prabhu said that in the near future, India will sign an agreement on the creation of a free trade zone with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

To Eurasian economic the union now includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. The EAEU signed agreements on free trade zones with Vietnam, China, Iran and Cuba, and negotiations are ongoing with other countries. Even a country such as Thailand, a long-standing US ally, shows interest in the EAEU.

If the agreement is really concluded, it will lead to positive shifts in the economic relations of the two states. The free trade zone will create a huge market, since both the Indian states and the Russian regions have great potential for cooperation.

Soon, consultations on free trade area agreements should begin. If they succeed, India will be able to become one of the key trade partners of the EAEU. Against the background of deteriorating relations with the West, this opens up new excellent opportunities for Russia in the field of trade. Relations with Russia are also important for India, because in New Delhi, not giving up close cooperation in the United States, they are looking for new markets and new opportunities for old markets.
