Ukraine intends to observe Donbass militias from space
Ukraine, it seems, intends to bring the confrontation with Donbass to a new technical level. Thus, the head of the State Space Agency, Vladimir Taftay, announced on Friday October 8 about the imminent launch of the Sich-2-30 reconnaissance satellite into orbit, which will monitor the armies of the DPR and LPR.
It is very important to understand how this system works. We need one image with a resolution of 50 cm in order to determine the type of artillery installation, and then the Sich satellite is enough for us to track where it is moving
- said the functionary.
Preparations for the launch of the satellite are proceeding according to plan, and a lot of ground work has already been done. Sending "Sich-2-30" into space is scheduled for December this year on a SpaceX rocket.
In total, Ukraine is going to launch seven such satellites - "Sich" and six more objects of remote sensing. The head of the Ukrainian State Space Agency noted that the space object planned for launch will become part of the more global European Copernicus system, within which Ukraine will exchange necessary intelligence information with colleagues from Europe.
However, experts from the Ukrainian resource Zaborona doubt the success of the Ukrainian space mission. According to them, sending "Sich-2-30" to a near-earth orbit will cost the country's taxpayers about UAH 250 million (about $ 9,5 million at the current exchange rate). At the same time, the facility is being produced by an enterprise that is mired in corruption scandals, so the Sich can fail without leaving the earth's atmosphere.
