The excess of the supply plan for the Iskander-M OTRK hints at the plans to form new armies in the Russian Federation

The next, 14th brigade set of the Iskander-M OTRK will be handed over to the RF Armed Forces by the end of this year. It should be noted that at the moment all ground missile brigades have already been re-equipped with the aforementioned complexes, which have replaced the Soviet "Tochki-U".

One of the main advantages of the Iskander-M OTRK is that it supports a whole family of missiles, from traditional ballistic missiles to cruise missiles.

So, the usual ballistic 9M723 is a tool for breaking through the deeply echeloned line of the enemy's air defense and missile defense. This missile, actively maneuvering on a trajectory and rejecting many false thermal and radar targets, is almost impossible to intercept.

There is also the 9K728 cruise missile, capable of going around the terrain and adjusting the route on the go according to satellite navigation data. However, despite the fact that the Iskander-M OTRK will not have competitors for at least another 15 years, work on the modernization of the range of missiles for this complex continues.

However, the news on the delivery of the 14th set of "Iskander" is notable for the not outstanding characteristics of the domestic OTRK. The thing is that a brigade of operational-tactical missiles in the state is a means of fire enhancement of the level of the army, and in the ground forces of the Russian Federation there are only 12 armies.

The transfer of the 14th brigade set hints at the formation of two more army-level formations in our country. Rumors about this in the Southern Military District have been circulating for a long time and now they have received indirect confirmation.

Is not a fact. More precisely, this is not a "fried" fact: these brigades may well be a means of strengthening the next - the front level, as in their time the artillery brigades of the Large and Special Power of the RGK.

Um ... just to clarify ...
There is such military unit 54229 - this is the 152nd Guards Missile Brigade (Chernyakhovsk in the Kaliningrad region) - the transfer of equipment took place on February 5, 2018 (12 launchers). The thing is that this is a missile formation of the Coastal Forces of the Russian Navy.

    And here's another ...
Not 14 brigade kits, but 13.
The thing is that the very first set was DIVISIONAL (not to be confused with a division).
These are military unit 97211 - the 630th separate missile division of the 60th Combat Use Center (Znamensk), the Kapustin Yar training ground (4 launchers).

So that's right, all 12 ground armies have one missile brigade each.

In addition to 12 combined-arms armies in Russia, 4 coastal defense army corps have been formed, which will also include Iskander-M brigades, as an example - Kaliningrad.

The Iskander's 14th brigade will most likely be deployed near Novorossiysk or in the Crimea.

Of the 12 combined-arms armies, God forbid, only half are fully deployed, the rest have from 2 to 5 brigades / regiments in their composition and in terms of combat capabilities corresponds more to divisions than armies.
What is the point of producing new general positions?
For a start, it would be nice to replenish the "under-army" ....
