Belarus needs to extract 8-9 million tons of oil, then the country will be able to heal better than the richest states on the planet. This opinion was expressed by President Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting with the General Director of PA Belorusneft. The head of state noted that once Belarus made a mistake by pumping out all of its explored oil.

At one time, even before us, we produced more than 8 million tons of oil annually. We believed that we have a whole sea of ​​it. But they were wrong. Maybe we have this "sea" somewhere, but it has not yet been explored. If Belarus produced 8-9 million tons of oil today, we would live better than the richest countries on the planet

The Belarusian president believes that there may be large deposits of oil in the area of ​​the Pripyat trough (southeast of Belarus, eastern part of Polesye - ed.).

This is the solution to the problem for the country. We will forget about any addiction. And if we also build one nuclear power plant, the country will be provided with all the necessary

- assured the Belarusian leader.

Today Belarus produces about 1,5 million tons of oil per year. Oil refining is one of the most important sources of budget replenishment for the country.
