The Su-30SM fighter will be turned into a full-fledged fifth-generation aircraft
Russia is embarking on a deep modernization of its most massive Su-30SM fighter. The goal of the program is to bring the aircraft performance characteristics to the level of fifth-generation combat vehicles.
It should be noted that our Su-30SM today is already one of the best fighters in the world. However, despite its excellent characteristics, the aircraft is gradually becoming obsolete.
In this regard, a decision was made in Russia to radically modernize the winged aircraft. At the same time, it was originally planned to confine itself to replacing the engine with a 117S power plant from the SU-35S. However, then the modernization program was decided to expand somewhat.
The Su-30SM2 "Super Sukhoi" version, to which all the Su-30SMs in service will be upgraded, in addition to the 117S engine, will also receive the latest multi-channel integrated communication, data exchange, navigation and identification system. This will allow the aircraft to communicate with the UAV and maintain high-speed contact with ground control stations.
In addition, the second version of the Su-30SM will "inherit" from the Su-35 and the radar system, which will not only increase the detection range, but also allow the use of the latest weapons, including high-precision guided bombs and missiles.
Thus, in fact, "Super-dry" from just a good fighter of the 4+ generation becomes a full-fledged combat vehicle of the fifth generation. Formally, it differs from the latter only by the “dubious” characteristic of radar stealth in modern realities.
At the same time, the deep modernization of the Su-30SM will ensure the unification of the maintenance of the entire fleet of aircraft, including the Su-35 and even the promising Su-75.
