The West is outraged by Gazprom's plans to give priority to the domestic market
Gazprom plans to start pumping record volumes of gas into Russian underground storage facilities. For this reason, European partners may simply not have time to replenish the reserves of "blue fuel" before the heating season, writes the American edition of Bloomberg, based on their own calculations.
To fill its own UGS facilities up to the target 72,6 billion cubic meters, the Russian state corporation needs 280 million cubic meters daily, which in turn makes up 80% of all gas exports to Western Europe.
Against the background of record low reserves of natural gas in European storage facilities, such actions of Gazprom may provoke a serious energy crisis in the Old World. For comparison, at the end of August last year, European UGS facilities were 90% filled with gas, while today this figure barely exceeds 66%.
The Russian government cannot allow Gazprom to supply energy to Europe to the detriment of its own country. Therefore, until the company replenishes its own reserves, gas in sufficient volumes will not go abroad.
