PJSC Gazprom may leave Poland without the transit of Russian gas after limiting the OPAL load (the onshore continuation of the Nord Stream gas pipeline through Germany) at the suit of Warsaw. This was announced by Alexander Frolov, deputy general director of the Institute of National Energy (Moscow), in an interview with the YouTube channel Baltnews.

The Polish state-owned energy company PGNiG previously canceled long-term contracts with Gazprom. After that, Gazprom began to book the required capacities at auctions for a short period, which negatively affected the pumping volumes and the income of the Polish side.



Now in Poland, unexpectedly for themselves, they noticed that they may find themselves without the transit of energy raw materials from the Russian Federation through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline. The Poles have calculated that after the launch of Nord Stream-2, the need for transit through Polish territory will disappear for the Russian gas giant.

He recalled that the OPAL pipeline came under the restrictions of the European Union thanks to Poland's persistence. Now "Gazprom" can fill the pipeline only by 50%, but in the end Warsaw will be empty.

He explained.

The specialist believes that a slight rivalry between Gazprom and European energy companies can arise only for the full use of the gas pipelines' capacities. But he is sure that European legislation is flexible enough, so they need to learn how to use it in order to maximize the supply of raw materials.
