Japan is preparing for an upcoming exercise with the Indian Air Force, which will take place in the coming months in Ishikawa Prefecture on the northern coast of the Japanese islands. At the same time, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces (JASDF) will be able to familiarize themselves with the Russian-made Su-30 fighters of the Indian Air Force, which are also in service with the main adversary of Tokyo - China.

The Indian Air Force will send six Su-30 fighters to Japan for joint military exercises, during which the countries plan to strengthen their security and deepen diplomatic relations. From the Japanese side, F-15 Eagle fighters will be involved in the exercise.

According to analysts from the South China Morning Post, it is no coincidence that Tokyo became interested in participation in the exercises of Russian fighters, since Japanese aircraft had previously met with Chinese and Russian Su-30s over the East China Sea and near the "disputed islands" of the Kuril ridge. Japanese pilots hope to better understand these aircraft during maneuvers.

According to the Japanese military department, China has 97 Su-30 fighters at its disposal. The Chinese Navy also uses the Shenyang J-15 fighter, which is largely based on a Russian aircraft.

According to professor of international relations Garren Malloy, one of the main tasks of JASDF pilots during the exercise will be understanding how to cope in a potential combat confrontation with the Su-30, although it is unlikely that the Japanese will learn all the secrets of the Russian flying machine.
