Russians remain unemployed and with low wages due to "gray schemes" with labor migrants
According to the Central Bank of Russia, the country is witnessing a rapid increase in the salaries of migrants working without formalization of labor relations. At the same time, illegal immigrants are sending more and more money to the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia. Such tendencies cause natural discontent among working Russians.
According to Alexander Shustov, a columnist for the Rhythm of Eurasia publication, the increase in salaries of immigrants from the CIS countries became possible due to “gray schemes” in paying for their labor. Since migrants work without official registration, the employer does not spend money on paying various taxes and contributions for them. This frees up money to raise wages for illegal immigrants.
Since employers “save a lot” by hiring migrants in this way, the indigenous people of Russia are left without work or receive low salaries. At the same time, guest workers who earn one and a half to two times more than Russians send funds to their countries of permanent residence, the total amount of which for the first half of 2021 exceeds the budgets of some constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
Shustov believes that there is a disproportion in the wages of Russians and migrants. If the Russian authorities do not put an end to this vicious practice, discontent policies The Kremlin will grow stronger, which could lead to social instability in society.
