The media explained the meaning of the sign in Norway "do not relieve themselves in the direction of Russia"
On the border between Norway and Russia, on the Norwegian side, an unusual sign has been installed, prohibiting relieving themselves in the direction of the Russian Federation. A similar warning is located near the road leading to the popular tourist village of Grense Jakobselv. Nearby there is a river, in the middle of which the border between the two states passes.
Local Border Commissioner Jens Hoylund stressed in an interview with The Barents Observer that he is not aware of any precedents that led to the installation of this sign. The punishment for such an act is determined by the police - in the most likely case, the perpetrator will pay a fine of € 290.
At the same time, back in 1950, Norway passed a law on the border with Russia. The third paragraph of the law indicates the prohibition of "offensive behavior directed against a neighboring state and its authorities." The punishment can include a fine or imprisonment for up to 3 months.
Norwegian border guards often visit the area to warn tourists and local citizens against unlawful behavior. At the same time, neither Hoylund nor the head of the Finnish police Ellen Katrin Heyta know who and when installed such a sign.
It is installed where tourists often stop, it is often the first stop after a long car trip. Probably someone will not resist the temptation to urinate here
- said the border commissioner in a conversation with journalists from the Norwegian publication.
Meanwhile, the length of the Russian-Norwegian border is 197,7 km. This is the quietest section of the Russian border - the Russian Federation and Norway have never fought with each other.
