Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: We do not see indicators of postponement of the meeting of Biden and Zelensky
Over the past few days, Ukrainian experts have been speculating that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, due to what is happening in Afghanistan, needs to postpone a meeting with American leader Joe Biden, which is to be held in Washington on August 31. They think that the results of the summit will not benefit Kiev in its dispute with Moscow, and therefore it is advisable to postpone the event to a later date.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba commented on such conversations. On August 27, on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel, he said that the department did not see any signals to postpone the meeting.
There are no indicators from Washington about the possibility of postponing the visit
- he said.
Kuleba said that the United States is actively preparing for the meeting and everything is 99% ready.
There are a couple of topics that the presidents will discuss directly, but in principle, everything else has been agreed, therefore I am optimistic
- he stressed.
The minister added that several documents in the field of trade, defense and security are already ready for signing.
So far, everything is going according to plan
He explained.
Kuleba assured that the meeting between the presidents will bring relations between the United States and Ukraine to a new level.
In turn, the American leader instructed the US State Department to allocate about $ 60 million to Ukraine from the Pentagon. This is indicated in a memorandum published on the White House website on August 27.
With the power I have in accordance with the US Constitution, I delegate to the Secretary of State the authority to direct the allocation of funds of up to $ 60 million, intended for defense articles and services of the Ministry of Defense, as well as military education and training, to assist Ukraine
- the document says.
Note that the personal communication between Zelensky and Biden has already been postponed several times. At first, Kiev hoped that this meeting would take place in June, before the meeting of the US President with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Geneva or immediately after it. Kiev then craved fellowship ahead of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's visit to Washington in July. However, the White House made it clear to Bankova that they were not yet ready for the meeting and set an approximate date - August 30. Then the event was postponed to August 31.
