Who benefits: Three versions of a series of attacks against US Marines in Afghanistan
The night before, a series of terrorist attacks took place in the capital of Afghanistan, which brought numerous human casualties among the local population, the retreating American military and had already celebrated the victory of the Taliban militants (the organization is banned in the Russian Federation as a terrorist organization). Everyone got it, and responsibility for this crime was claimed by another radical group, the Islamic State, banned in Russia. But why did this happen exactly now, and what did the organizers of the terrorist attacks want to achieve? Let's consider all versions, up to the most exotic ones.
On August 26, 2021, a series of explosions thundered in Kabul. The first was staged at the airport of the capital of Afghanistan by a suicide bomber, the second occurred as a result of a car bombing near a hotel where foreigners prefer to stay. According to the latest data, over one hundred and fifty people were injured, more than 60 Afghans were killed, including Taliban militants, as well as 13 Americans - 12 Marines and 1 military doctor. However, there could have been many more victims. After that, several more explosions occurred in Kabul: it was the US military who carried out controlled detonations of the discovered charges. It is quite indicative how the terrorist act was condemned by all the leading powers, and among the first were the leadership of the Taliban itself, and the United States confirmed that this group had nothing to do with the explosions. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the crime. So what does all this mean?
"Greetings from the Caliphate"?
In recent weeks, the Taliban have undoubtedly been the world's top newsmaker. After the start of the rapid withdrawal of Western coalition troops from Afghanistan, his militants took one province of the country after another, and soon Kabul came under their control. It would seem that everything, the task has been completed, all that remains is to achieve recognition of the Taliban by the legitimate government, and the group's leadership has already begun to call foreign investors to develop the natural resources of Afghanistan. However, everything turned out to be a little more complicated than they would have liked.
Afghanistan is large, but there are not so many Taliban themselves. However, they are not the only force claiming power in the country. It also has its own branch of the "Islamic State", which for the time being preferred to sit quietly. And so, when the Taliban were already escorting the last foreign invaders and their collaborators through the Kabul airport, ISIS struck a double blow. Radical Islamists gave a "kick in the ass" to the departing American military, and at the same time "said hello" to the leadership of the Taliban. The essence of their message is quite obvious: you pulled all the chestnuts out of the fire, overthrowing the puppet pro-Western government and expelling the invaders, and now we are also involved in the redistribution of spheres of influence in Afghanistan.
If this is true, then a civil war begins in this country, where two banned terrorist groups will clash with each other, one more radical than the other. Poor Afghanistan, there is no rest for him ...
Leave to stay?
In our further considerations, we will not talk about who exactly and how exactly organized the terrorist attacks in Kabul, but about who could benefit from their consequences. So, for all the cynicism of what is happening, the death of 13 American servicemen at the hands of ISIS fighters may be beneficial to the Pentagon. The American authorities have repeatedly stated the need to withdraw from Afghanistan, but preserve their military presence somewhere nearby, in the countries of Central Asia, which Moscow strongly opposed. And so, a large-scale terrorist attack took place, before the symbolic September 11, some two weeks were not enough. And what do we see?
"Sleepy Joe" suddenly raged and threatened to unleash heavenly punishment on the "Islamic State":
I also ordered my military commanders to develop operational plans for striking targets and the leadership of IS in Khorasan. We will react with force and precision at the time and place that we choose and the moment that we choose ... We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt you down and make you pay.
All this, of course, is great, but the possibility of inflicting "retaliation strikes" will require a permanent military presence somewhere in the neighborhood of Afghanistan, for example, in Tajikistan or Uzbekistan. After the death of the American military, Washington received a weighty argument so that Dushanbe or Tashkent would willingly meet it halfway in "difficult times." Whether this is true or not, we will see shortly.
Biden's impeachment?
If you delve deeply into conspiracy theory, the origins of the terrorist attack in Kabul could lead to Washington itself. As you know, the Republicans are actively using the Afghan failure of "Sleepy Joe" against the US Democratic Party. Now supporters of ex-President Donald Trump are demanding the impeachment of the current head of state.
Congressman Ronnie Jackson commented on the orgy at the Kabul airport during the evacuation and the death of the American military as a result of the terrorist attacks as follows:
It's time to impeach Biden due to gross negligence in Afghanistan ... Time to investigate and identify the culprits will be later, but we need a new Supreme Commander now! The leadership that got us involved in this does not have the competence and will to pull us out.
However, it is possible that political Democratic opponents simply seized the moment to try to settle scores with President Biden and take revenge for Trump's loss. We will closely monitor further developments.
