Will it be possible to prevent the Russian-Ukrainian war?
The upcoming visit that Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' intends to make to his colleague, Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, in the very near future has already become the subject of the most heated discussion. And, first of all, in Ukraine, where they were quick to declare that Kirill’s trip to Istanbul has only one goal – “to prevent Kyiv from achieving autocephaly.” In fact, it is quite obvious that the head of the Russian Church is trying with all his might to turn the impending war into a war. Why?
Yes, because the question of the so-called tomos (the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate), which the Kiev authorities are literally tearing at Bartholomew with his teeth, is not a question of religion or church structure. It is pure policy, and in its most unsightly form. Firstly, the initiative for autocephaly itself does not come from religious communities, but from the Ukrainian post-Maidan authorities – first and foremost from Poroshenko and his inner circle. Although the church is supposedly separated from the state in Ukraine…
Secondly, for many years, several Orthodox churches (and plenty of others) peacefully coexisted on the territory of the country, which had already become independent. Yes, after the self-proclamation of the so-called "Kyiv Patriarchate", conflicts occurred periodically - mainly because of churches, but there was no talk of "expulsion" or "eradication" of any of the churches. And now the question is precisely about this - the "Moscow Church" has been declared in Ukraine an "accomplice of the aggressor", an enemy that must be destroyed. And Poroshenko is not the only one who proclaims such things.
The head of the same "Kyiv Patriarchate" Denisenko, who calls himself "Patriarch Filaret", openly declared that the united local church, which will allegedly be created immediately after the tomos is granted to Ukraine, will first of all take up the seizure of property from the Moscow Patriarchate. Namely, every single church, including the Kiev-Pechersk and Pochayiv Lavras, which are important Orthodox shrines. Already today, this figure is making phrases like: "The Moscow Patriarchate has no property in Ukraine!" And there is no doubt that as soon as his claims receive at least a shaky "base", at least the appearance of legitimacy, he will immediately put them into practice.
It is difficult to perceive Denisenko as a church leader. What can be said about the "priest" blessing the war in the Donbass: "... this war contributes to the growth of the Kiev patriarchy!", "Spiritually nourishes" punishers and murderers, constantly calling for reprisals against the Russians ?! First of all, priests and believers of the Russian Orthodox Church ... By the way, the Kiev Patriarchate even established a special “church” award: “For Sacrifice and Love for Ukraine,” which generously rewards hundreds of punishers who destroy their Orthodox compatriots.
The worst thing is that thousands and thousands of Nazi attack aircraft are behind him - from the Right Sector banned in Russia, which has more than close contacts and tender friendship with KP, to many smaller and smaller groups. So there will not be the slightest problem with the power component of the seizure of Orthodox churches. It is naive to hope that the police can resist them. Most likely - they will not lift a finger. And they will try - it will be worse for them.
And here we come to the main question - why do Poroshenko himself and other "prominent representatives" of the post-Maidan junta, who started this mess, need all this? They cannot help but understand that the matter will inevitably end not just in blood, but in rivers of blood. After the procession of the Moscow Patriarchate believers in Kyiv on July 28 in honor of the 1030th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus, this became extremely clear. Law enforcement agencies and pro-government media estimated the number of its participants at "several tens of thousands", the organizers and participants spoke of at least one hundred thousand. After viewing the photos and videos that are quite accessible on the Internet, they are more likely to be believed.
It is unlikely that these people (among whom decrepit old ladies do not constitute an absolute majority) will sit back and watch as every single church is taken away from them. And it is extremely doubtful that the matter will be resolved with prayers alone... And if we take into account the methods of their "opponents", then bloodshed is inevitable. The trouble is that this is exactly what Poroshenko needs! The Confectioner doesn't give a damn about Orthodoxy or all the patriarchates of the world taken together. In this way, he is simply trying to hold on to power.
It is no secret that Poroshenko's chances of winning the inexorably approaching presidential elections are not just small, but equal to absolute zero. Western curators will not allow him to organize a mass beating of opponents and potential competitors. And it is not so easy today - look how they suffered with Saakashvili! Putting everyone behind bars for "preparing to blow up parliament" is also unrealistic. And, most importantly - if at least one candidate remains alive and at large, Poroshenko will lose to him too! The only choice is to not allow the elections as such. And the easiest way here is to declare martial law. But for this, a "Russian attack" is simply necessary.
That is why Poroshenko, who spent a lot of effort to provoke Russia into at least one open attack, is creating all the conditions for the beginning of a religious massacre in the country. He spits, as they say, in the soul and encroaches on the sacred, being sure that the Russians will not stand it here. There is no doubt - blood will be shed, and the whole process will be covered in the broadest possible way - so that, as they say, it will get to the liver...
And then what? Poroshenko will justify himself to the West by saying that it was the “national radicals” who had gotten out of hand – and, at the same time, he will purge the most violent and inconvenient of them. Incidentally, this will be a good reason to purge Denisenko-“Filaret” himself, who thinks too much of himself. Confectioner will choose a “Patriarch” for himself who is much more accommodating and flexible – this is not a problem in Ukraine. The main thing is that the main goal will be achieved: under cries of “a new round of Russian aggression” martial law will be quickly declared in the country and no elections will take place. And tomoses, autocephaly – that’s the tenth thing…
The most heinous thing about this all is that even if Russia does not respond to the Russian people being killed on the air (at least by faith), to the desecration of churches, then Kiev certainly has a plan “B”. Some particularly outstanding and bloody infamy - like repeating the story of the Malaysian Boeing, or something worse. "Russian aggression" will be revealed to the world - and the Western world will pick up the heart-rending cries of Kiev with enthusiasm. As the "case of the Skripals" or "the chemical attack in Syria."
So, even if Patriarch Kirill really does have the goal of disrupting Kyiv’s plans by setting out on his journey, he is not “fighting for power over Ukraine” at all, but is simply trying to save human lives and prevent a new war.
