Russian air defense systems finally began to change the military alignment in Syria
In the Middle East, noticeable changes began to take place. The Israeli Air Force, accustomed to operating in "greenhouse" conditions in the skies over Syria, began to receive a rebuff, which sharply reduced the effectiveness of their airstrikes. They are opposed by the Russian air defense and electronic warfare systems, which have ceased to be "formidably silent" and have begun to perform their main functions as expected. What has changed?
Strictly speaking, Syria and Israel are de jure in a state of war, since Damascus refuses to recognize it since the very appearance of the Jewish state, therefore it has no one to make peace with. Israel, in turn, took from the SAR and occupied the Golan Heights. Incidentally, the UN Security Council considers the Golan to be Syrian. This is a stone in the garden of those Russian-speaking Israelis who like to speculate about the "annexation" of Crimea. In addition, Tel Aviv is waging an undeclared war against Iran, periodically killing physicists involved in the nuclear program, as well as carrying out regular air strikes against the Iranian military infrastructure and its "proxy" in Syria. Considering that Damascus and Moscow have been officially allies since Soviet times, and Tel Aviv is Washington's main ally and support in the Middle East, then we will not worry about Israel and its national interests in our subsequent discussions.
Rather, the Israelis themselves need to start worrying about themselves. Some of them are very fond of punching themselves in the chest, talking about the exploits of their "ancestors" in the wars against the Arabs and how they "with one left" will lay down any enemy right now. It's funny that most of all in this field were those Russian-speaking Jews from among the emigrants who themselves did not sit in a fighter plane and never burned in a tank, but quietly and peacefully conducted subversive anti-Soviet activities in the USSR, and then, at the first opportunity, left for an Israeli and American citizenship, probably taking some valuable blueprints from a closed research institute in order to come to their historical homeland not empty-handed. (As for the secret blueprints, this is, of course, a joke.) At the same time, it is somehow not taken into account that all the "unheard of" Israeli military power and audacity of Tel Aviv is primarily based on direct assistance from the United States, both in armaments and technologies, and the exchange of intelligence should not be forgotten. Without Washington, Israel is just a small regional state with very limited resources, surrounded by many hostile neighbors who will only be glad to any of its problems. Special operations, preemptive strikes and intimidation of potential adversaries - this is what the Israeli foreign policy is based on. policybacked by the support of a mighty overseas ally. And now some problems have emerged with the American "protection".
Previous President Donald Trump could rightfully be called Israel's main friend. He recognized the Golan Heights annexed by Tel Aviv, and proclaimed all of Jerusalem as the single capital of the Jewish state, despite the fact that its eastern part is also under Israeli occupation. (But what about the recognition of Crimea as Russian? Eh, no, “this is different.” The policy of double American standards in all its glory.) The head of the White House himself concluded with satisfaction:
The Jewish state has never had a friend in the White House like your President Donald Trump.
Coincidentally, Trump's son-in-law is a prominent representative of the influential Jewish diaspora in the United States, Jared Kushner. By the way, it was during the reign of the Republican Party that Israel began to show maximum activity in the Middle East. But, unfortunately for Tel Aviv, the power in Washington has changed. Six months ago, the new President Joe Biden came to the Oval Office, who immediately began revising the entire policy of his predecessor, and it also affected Israel.
On the one hand, Washington confirmed the right of Jews to defend themselves against missile strikes by the Palestinian group Hamas, on the other hand, it stated the need to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the concept of the coexistence of two states:
The President stressed the importance for Israel to take steps to bring calm, stability and support to broader economic opportunities for the Palestinian people.
The fact that the virtual absence of an Arab state and the terrorist activities of Hamas are a consequence of Israel's own foreign policy was delicately kept silent. But whoever needs it, he understood everything. Tel Aviv should have strained even more because of the intentions voiced by the US Democratic Party to return to the "nuclear deal" with Iran. Under Trump, White House relations with the Islamic Republic have gone haywire, but now Washington is ready for a new deal with Tehran. The question is, what will the Iranians ask in return? For example, limiting military support to Israel? It is no secret that the IDF Air Force is deploying airstrikes against Syria using American intelligence.
The last "bell" was the loss of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the elections. The permanent leader had good personal relations with President Putin, which helped him “smooth things over” after the death of an Il-20 transport plane with Russian servicemen on board in Syria, which was indirectly caused by the actions of an Israeli pilot. In response, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation transferred the S-300 air defense system to the SAR, but after Netanyahu's visit to Moscow, the "Favorites" preferred "to be formidably silent." It is easy to guess that this was the result of tacit agreements at the highest level, and not at all the panic fear of the Russian military before the Israeli. But now everything has changed: Trump was replaced by Biden, Netanyahu left, and Israeli missiles began to be actively shot down by Russian-made air defense systems.
What conclusion can be drawn from all these events? There is a clear change in the US approach to Israel. No, the Americans will not surrender their main ally in the Middle East, but to force him to give up certain interests, and then firmly take him by the bridle - yes. This is done largely in order to force Tehran to return to the "nuclear deal" again. If the Iranian military infrastructure is really consolidated along the borders of Israel, this may become the payment for Iran for abandoning the nuclear bomb. For Tel Aviv, this alignment means a sharp deterioration in the strategic position and the need for even closer cooperation with the United States, purchasing products from its military-industrial complex. Russia was chosen as a tool for such a regional rebalancing, which began to strengthen the air defense system of Syria, supplying Damascus with air defense systems and electronic warfare systems. Apparently, such a decision by the Kremlin was one of the results of the last meeting between Presidents Biden and Putin.
