The American missile defense system has not passed the test: the ballistic missile overtook the target
The United States tested the sea-based Aegis missile defense system northwest of Hawaii. According to sources, Aegis was unable to hit all launched targets.
The purpose of testing the American missile defense system was the destruction of two short-range ballistic missiles, which were to be carried out by four Standard Missile-6 Dual II missiles at the final stage of the trajectory of flying objects. However, preliminary data accurately report the defeat of only one ballistic missile, while the second overtook the target.
Antimissiles were launched from the USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) missile destroyer. The US Missile Defense Agency said in a statement that "the FTM-33 test has become the most challenging US missile defense mission in recent years."
According to some experts, the development of missile and anti-missile systems by the United States threatens strategic stability in the world. In particular, American missile defense systems deployed near Russia pose risks to the country's security and force Moscow to take adequate measures. One of the responses to such actions by NATO was the creation of hypersonic missile weapons.
