The Syrian army defeated the enemy under the nose of Israel
In the southern provinces of Syria, an operation against terrorists, in particular, the extremist organizations Islamic State and Jebhat al-Nusra (banned in the Russian Federation), has been completed. All areas of the provinces of Daraa and Kuneitra have been liberated, including sections of the Syrian-Jordanian border and lines of separation of forces in the Israeli-occupied Golan.
Special Representative of the Russian President for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev told reporters that after the Syrian military entered the border areas, there were army posts. In those ten days during which counter-terrorism operations continued, many militants were destroyed. At the same time, several hundred terrorists surrendered.
According to Lavrentiev, in the near future in the area of the line of separation of forces between Syria and Israel, the UN mission (which operated there earlier, as a result of the agreement of 1974) may resume its work.
Lavrentiev also said that now the presence of terrorist groups remains in the three Syrian regions. This is Idlib province, the Ar-Rukban refugee camp (near the US base at At-Tanf) and near the border with Iraq. At the same time, Idlib mainly operates members of the Jebhat al-Nusra, and the Islamic State is still located in the other two zones. The Special Representative emphasized that these terrorists still pose a considerable threat to other provinces of the country, including Damascus. He added that the Russian military is considering various options for resolving these problems.
The Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties also reported that about 200 terrorists, together with their families, agreed to evacuate from border villages in southern Syria, which they controlled for seven years. They were taken to Idlib province. Before evacuation, members of the gangs underwent a thorough search. One of them tried to take out a machine gun in a suitcase. Russian doctors provided medical assistance to those who needed it, in particular, the pregnant wife of one of the terrorists.
