Delta is coming: the most dangerous strain of coronavirus goes to Europe
On June 21, a complete lifting of antivirus restrictions in the UK was planned. The country's authorities and exhausted population were set to celebrate the victory over the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as its Kent and British strains, dubbed "Alpha Option". However, everything turned out to be much more complicated and the government announced that "it is necessary to wait a little."
Experts from European countries are sounding the alarm, the most dangerous strain of coronavirus B.1.617.2 (the Indian variant of COVID-19, called the "Delta variant") is coming, it goes to Europe from other regions. Delta is 60% more infectious than Alpha and much more dangerous.
The WHO warned that the Delta strain has already been identified in 80 countries of the world, its spread and mutations continue. At the same time, persons who have had a previous illness or have undergone a single vaccination do not have reliable protection against infection. Its symptoms are similar to those of a cold (headache or muscle pain, nasal congestion and sore throat). initially there may be no fever, cough, or loss of smell. Therefore, this type of coronavirus is considered insidious.
In Germany, the Delta strain is still not widespread, but this is a temporary phenomenon, since the number of infections doubles daily. Local doctors warn that it is still necessary to wear masks and it is too early to remove the imposed restrictions. They ask German tourists not to repeat the mistakes of last year, when they brought "gifts" from other countries for their compatriots.
Head of the Chancellery of the German Prime Minister Helge Braun said in an interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland that he recommends German football fans not to go to the Euro 2020 semi-final and final matches, as they will be held in London. At the same time, representatives of the UK health system informed the public that the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine is 96% guaranteed that after two doses a person does not go to the hospital with the Delta strain (in the worst case, it will suffer in a mild form at home), while the vaccine from Oxford / Astrazeneca provides a 92% guarantee. Health workers clarified that vaccination does not guarantee 100 percent immunity.
