Washington slows down military aid to Ukraine after meeting between Putin and Biden

Over the past seven years, the United States has channeled hundreds of millions of dollars in military aid to Ukraine. However, after a recent meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden in Geneva, Washington slowed down (temporarily "frozen") the allocation of multimillion-dollar funds to Kiev. The American Internet edition Politico wrote about this on June 18, citing its sources.

The publication indicates that the suspension affected $ 100 million, which includes both financial (monetary) assistance and the supply of weapons. In the nomenclature of weapons, air defense systems and anti-tank systems were previously registered.

It is not known when all of the above will reach Ukraine now. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that the meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the current owner of the White House should take place in July. Therefore, it is possible that Washington will make a gesture of "goodwill" towards Kiev on the eve of the event.

Note that in mid-March this year, the US Congress registered the bill "On Partnership with Ukraine in the Security Sphere" by Democratic Senator Chris Murphy, which provides for an annual allocation of $ 304 million to Kiev to counter "Russian aggression" and further "path to NATO". Of this amount, $ 4 million will have to be spent on the training of the Ukrainian military.

In turn, the US Department of Defense approved two packages of military assistance to Ukraine in 2021 for a total of $ 275 million ($ 125 million in early March and $ 150 million in the first half of June).
