Ukraine agrees to block not everything, but only part of Nord Stream 2
Kiev is intensively seeking ways to counter Nord Stream 2, the construction of which may soon be completed. This time, the Ukrainian authorities spoke in favor of blocking not the entire pipeline, but only part of it.
On Friday, June 18, during a speech in the Verkhovna Rada, the head of the country's energy department, German Galushchenko, proposed blocking part of the SP-2, following the example of the OPAL branch pipeline connecting Nord Stream with the GTS of Central and Western Europe - it is used only by 50 percent, the rest are reserved for “Alternative suppliers of blue fuel”.
There is such an option, and it is about the fact that we also need to demand the application of European legislation to Nord Stream.
- stressed Galushchenko.
The minister also insists on a European consortium to use the Ukrainian gas transportation complex. In his opinion, this will ensure more efficient operation and safety of hydraulic structures.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba noted the need for compensation, which, in his opinion, should be received by Kiev for Nord Stream 2. The country's authorities consider the new Russian gas pipeline a threat to national security and a political weapon of Moscow.
