PMC "Wagner" settled in most African countries

The European media are concerned about the strengthening of the Russian private military company Wagner, which is already present in most African countries. For example, the experts of the French Le Figaro talk about the possibility of the influence of PMCs from Russia in the Sahel (a region of the continent), which stretches from the Atlantic to the coast of the Red Sea, where the Russians are forced to go against the interests of France.

In particular, the "Wagnerites" feel at ease in Libya, fighting for the LNA led by Khalifa Haftar. In this North African country, Wagner PMC fighters control Sirte and the Al-Jufra base.



In Chad, the rebel units of the Front for Change and Accord also accepted assistance from private military structures of the Russian Federation. Mali signed an agreement with Russia on the use of Wagner PMC two years ago. The mercenaries also infiltrated the CAR, which became a "Russian foothold" on the continent.

Thus, Russia dreams of returning to Africa the influence that the Soviet Union once enjoyed here. For this, hired servicemen of a private military company, promoting Moscow's interests, are secretly used. In return, the Russians are ready to provide African regimes with everything they need: weapons, political support, combat training, etc.

At the same time, French experts doubt the widespread influence of Wagner in the Sahel, since fighters from Russia do not have enough funds and efforts to ensure security in such a vast territory. The political conditions of the countries of the region are also not very favorable for the "transformation of the Sahel into the CAR".
