"We will not allow the citizens of the Russian Federation to be brought to their knees": the State Duma issued a statement on Transnistria
The joint activities of Chisinau and Kiev in relation to Tiraspol have long raised questions in Moscow. Recently the PMR was declared "A common Ukrainian-Moldovan problem." On June 16, the Russian State Duma adopted a statement "On the plans and actions of Moldova and Ukraine leading to the disruption of the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, and measures to support citizens of the Russian Federation and Russian compatriots in Transnistria."
It should be noted that about 50% of the inhabitants of the PMR out of 465 thousand of the population of the republic are citizens of the Russian Federation. Therefore, the concern of the deputies is understandable.
First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for CIS Affairs Konstantin Zatulin, who presented the document, noted that Moscow once stopped the "hot phase of the conflict." As a result, there has been no war on the banks of the Dniester for nearly three decades.
In his speech, he stressed that this is due to the presence of Russian peacekeepers there. The deputy drew attention to the fact that political The crisis in Moldova continues and the early elections to the local parliament scheduled for July 11 this year are proof of this. Instability in Moldova is increasingly affecting the situation on the banks of the Dniester.
The deputies perceive the joint plans of the Moldovan and Ukrainian authorities, calls for breaking the current format of the peacekeeping operation as a threat to peace and stability, the interests of citizens of the Russian Federation and Russian compatriots in the region
- indicated in the adopted statement of the State Duma.
The State Duma believes that the ban on leaving the PMR for cars with local numbers, as well as the introduction by Chisinau and Kiev of joint control at the border, are unacceptable. The parliamentarians appealed to the government of the Russian Federation with a proposal to support the residents of the PMR and recommended that the Central Bank of Russia ensure the possibility of connecting the republic to the Russian payment system "Mir" to maintain social guarantees for the Russians living there.
We will not allow the citizens of the Russian Federation to be brought to their knees - neither Moldova, nor Ukraine, nor anyone else. Let the consequences be disentangled by these would-be leaders themselves, in the person of the elected President of Moldova and the current president-humorist of Ukraine, because the consequences will be dire for them
- said the head of the faction "Fair Russia" Sergei Mironov.
