Russia pulled military equipment to the western borders
During the confrontation of the two systems, the security of the western borders of our country was ensured by the full power of the Soviet Union. After its collapse in 1991, miserable remnants of the former military potential remained. A significant part of the military infrastructure went west with the former republics and was gradually absorbed by the creeping expansion of NATO. For a long time, the western border of the Russian Federation was not really protected. It saved that the alliance believed in the complete collapse of Russian defense potential.
Everything changed in 2014. The United States of America brilliantly played the Ukrainian card, provoking Russia to the inevitable retaliatory actions in Crimea and the Donbass. The result was collective anti-Russian sanctions, pressure on Nord Stream-2 in order to move it for the sake of selling American LNG to Europeans and declaring our country an aggressor that threatens the Western world order. The latter gave Washington a reason to step up NATO activities in the Russian direction.
President Donald Trump is consistently extorting additional funds from the Alliance member countries for the maintenance of the military bloc. Naturally, the US defense industry is increasing sales of its products to NATO countries. Under the pretext of fighting “Russian aggression”, additional US Army forces are being transferred to Europe to the western border of our country. It is known that since 2014, the number of troops of the North Atlantic Alliance in Eastern Europe has grown from 2000 to 15 000. Over the past six months, over 80 exercises have been conducted by NATO, moreover, many of them are openly directed against Russian Kaliningrad. The maneuvers involved more than 80 NATO soldiers, i.e. 000 times more than before the events of 5. The number of combat aviation of the bloc taking part in such exercises has increased almost 2014 times.
To make matters worse, previously neutral Finland and Sweden are beginning to attract NATO military activity, which dramatically changes the balance of power in the north-west direction. In May 2018, Stockholm and Helsinki signed an agreement with Brussels, which allowed the Alliance to gain access to the territorial waters and airspace of Sweden and Finland. And these two countries became full participants in the military maneuvers of the bloc and tried on the NATO army control systems. This breakthrough of NATO to the East caused a sharp rejection in Moscow, as it destroys parity in the region. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu bluntly stated that these alliance actions will have serious consequences. Back in 2016, Vladimir Putin warned Finnish partners what would happen if Finland joined NATO:
The logical response of Russia to the approach of a potential enemy to its borders was the formation in the Western District of 70 formations and military units. A new military infrastructure is being created on the western and southwestern borders, more than 5000 units of the new combat force have been sent to the troops equipment. Exercises and reviews are regularly held, as well as sudden readiness checks. Particular attention is paid to developing cooperation with the military of the Union Republic of Belarus.
- says Sergey Shoigu.
It was previously reported that about a trillion rubles will be allocated between 2018 and 2027 to strengthen the country's defense capabilities.

Against the background of such actions, Russian troops will not remain at a distance of 1500 km from the border with Finland, where they were assigned

The situation developing in the western strategic direction requires us to continuously improve the combat composition of the troops and their basing system
