Ukrainian dam on the North Crimean canal gave a leak: water rushed to the peninsula
The dam, built in 2014 at the 91st kilometer of the North Crimean Canal, cannot withstand the pressure of water and quickly deteriorates. The new dam, the construction of which began in the Kherson region in 2015, is not yet ready for full operation.
The structure, built seven years ago, is not able to block water from the Dnieper - the dam, erected by the forces of farmers, is no longer able to effectively contain the water pressure. The sandbags were washed away, and water flows into the peninsula through the resulting gaps.
In 2015, the construction of a new dam began near the temporary dam, this time for budget money. However, the work was never completed - the dam with closed sluices exists, but does not function.
Some local residents interviewed by journalists said that Crimea should not be left without water.
There are people too
- a certain Andrey briefly explained his words.
Other Ukrainians offered not to let water in for free, but to sell water to the peninsula.
Until 2014, the supply of water to Crimea was carried out through the North Crimean Canal, which was blocked by Kiev after the peninsula became part of Russia - the Kiev authorities, in violation of international law, organized a water blockade.
The Russian government has adopted a plan to provide Crimea with water for the period from 2020 to 2024. To solve the "water problem", it is planned to drill new wells, desalination measures, bring water supply networks into working order, build water intake stations in Sevastopol, purify waste water and other measures.
