Ukrainian political scientist: DPR and LPR may become part of the Union State of Russia and Belarus

The psycho-emotional turn in Donbass may lead to the DPR and LPR reorienting themselves to new projects in Russia, and the “Belarusian issue” will help such a development of events. On June 4, 2021, political scientist Andrey Ermolaev, president of the Center for Social Research Sofia (Kiev), told about this on the air of the program "Rozklad Kulinich" of the Ukrainian television channel "Apostrof TV".

The expert drew attention to the fact that until recently, talks about the Union State of Russia and Belarus seemed to be a fantasy. However, now it is a mature geopolitical project that is very valuable for Moscow, and the West can recognize it by making a compromise with the Russians.

The political scientist explained that if the project is launched, then after carrying out certain procedures, full-fledged union structures will appear. This will give the unrecognized states, which for various reasons cannot become part of Russia, an opportunity to become members of a new federation or confederation.

This gives real prospects for the LPR and DPR.

Ermolaev pointed out that there is no progress in the Minsk process, and there are no prospects for a normal dialogue between Kiev and Donbass. All the initiatives of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy look unrealistic and uninteresting to the inhabitants of the LPR and DPR. Therefore, Lugansk and Donetsk can watch with interest the formation of the Union State.

The most linear option is to prepare the LDNR for possible participation in the Union State as new national Russian states, as part of this entity. The most interesting thing is that for the West this may be the answer to how to get out of the war.

    An interesting version. But in order to include the LDNR in the union state, their independence must be recognized. And this will mean a refusal of reintegration on the conditions of the LPNR, which puts an end to the introduction of such changes to the constitution of Ukraine, which would at least exclude its entry into NATO (if such a goal was of course set after we had already "got into a fight" , having received all kinds of sanctions and direct material damage for this, which it would be desirable to recoup with some long-term acquisitions). In other words, the recognition of the LDNR in this context can be viewed as a strategic defeat of the Russian Federation in (all) the Ukrainian direction.

    Someone already does not tell Putin how the LPNR can be annexed to Russia. And he keeps trying to persuade Ukraine to fulfill the Minsk agreements. Everyone has long ago understood that these agreements are kaput, but everything does not reach Putin. How not to remind about education here?
