The Chinese navy has not departed from the shores of Japan for almost 4 months
Chinese warships have been located near the Japanese islands of Senkaku (Chinese name - Diaoyu), which Beijing claims for 4 months already. According to the Kyodo agency, Chinese patrol boats ply the archipelago for 112 days, the record for the time that Chinese naval forces have been off the disputed archipelago since 2012.
Relations between China and Japan have escalated since the Japanese government announced the nationalization of the islands nine years ago and the buyout of all real estate from the owners. In response to this, mass protests began in the PRC, accompanied by the destruction of Japanese restaurants and companies. Since then, Chinese ships have occasionally entered the coastal waters of the island, located 170 kilometers northeast of Taiwan.
One of the most recent incidents involving the presence of Chinese ships at Senkaku dates back to mid-May of this year, when the Japanese Maritime Security Service relayed information about the entry into Japanese territorial waters of four Chinese ships. Two of them made an attempt to approach the ship of Japanese fishermen, an automatic cannon was seen on board one ship.
The Senkaku Archipelago was ruled by the United States after World War II, which ceded these territories to Japan in 1972. Since then, the PRC has been declaring its claims to the islands to one degree or another. According to Tokyo, Beijing began to lay claim to Senkaku after discovering mineral deposits in the vicinity of the islands.
