How Estonia broke off with Putin's plane
Russia has become accustomed to all kinds of claims from the Baltic republics. For example, Estonia quite often blames Russian planes for violating its airspace. But the other day, the Estonian side accused of violating the country's airspace "board number one" - the plane of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Representatives of the Estonian military department said that on Monday morning in the area of Vindlo Island, the A319 and IL-96 aircraft violated the airspace of the country in which they were located for less than a minute. The next day, a representative of the Russian embassy in Tallinn was called to the Estonian Foreign Ministry. The diplomat was handed a note of protest - a procedure quite usual for such situations.
By the way, it is Vindlo Island that most often appears as a place of violation of Estonian airspace. This is the northernmost Estonian island, which is located 30 km west of the Russian Small Tyuters. There are a lighthouse and a tower with an Estonian border guard radar on the island. It is from this island that Estonian airspace is measured. But the neutral corridor over the Gulf of Finland, along which Russian planes fly to Finland, in this place is very narrow and is only 10 km. Therefore, it is possible that the plane, passing along the Estonian airspace, could simply touch its wing. In any case, the Estonian military immediately used this reason for another visit to Russia, trying to present the case in such a way as if the Russian presidential plane almost intentionally violated the country's airspace.
Meanwhile, any intentional crossing of the Estonian border by Russian plane with the head of state or other high-ranking officials on board is expressly excluded. Therefore, the accusations of the “special” nature of such a violation seem outright stupid. Even if such a violation did occur, civilized people would have closed their eyes to it. Moscow acted very competently - they simply did not comment on such dubious claims. Already on Tuesday evening, a representative of an Estonian civil aviation coordination company denied the violation of the country's airspace. According to him, the plane of the Russian president did not violate the Estonian border and flew directly from Russia to Finland and back. Who is lying - military or civilian? Most likely, the first, as representatives of civilian dispatching services do this simply for nothing.
It is possible that through another provocation, the Estonian military tried once again to make Russia an aggressive country that does not reckon with foreign borders. Moreover, the results of the meeting between Putin and Trump are very dissatisfied with the tops of the Eastern European satellites of the United States, the very meaning of whose existence - both financial and ideological - is to oppose Russia to itself. When it is possible to blame Russia for something, the Baltic countries are always right there.
Secondly, Estonia, as well as Latvia, is characterized by constant discussions about the Russian threat. Accusing Russia of violating airspace, the Estonian military can count on additional financing - business and nothing more. In addition, in recent times the West has been increasingly less willing to finance the Baltic countries, which are quite useless for it.
