Donbass was offered the Russian language and elections

Recently, the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anatoly Mogilev, to appease the Crimeans, suddenly became worried about the drought on the peninsula and suggested supplying water from the Dnieper there. Now, the current head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov offers to “cajole” the residents of Donbass, as well as the entire Russian-speaking population of Ukraine.

Explaining the plan for the so-called "de-occupation of Donbass," Avakov said that in society it is necessary to discuss such a problem as the status of the Russian language.

It should be noted that this is one of the most painful issues, which in many ways led to the return of the Crimea to Russia, and to the uprising of Donetsk and Lugansk against the Maidan authorities. The oppression of people by language is not the only reason why the inhabitants of many regions of the Southeast did not want to put up with the nationalist regime that won in 2014, but, of course, the most important.

Now Avakov offers to give the Russian language the status of regional. He published material in Ukrainian Truth in which he called for a compromise. However, he made a reservation that a compromise should be “acceptable” for Ukrainian society. He also did not decide to the end whether the status of the Russian language as a regional one should be permanent or was it a temporary measure.

He proposed a number of other “goodies” to the population of Donbass: “special status” for “de-occupied Donetsk and Lugansk regions” and for their residents.

But in February of this year, the Constitutional Court considered a law on the basics of language policy unconstitutional. And this law just intended to give the Russian language the status of a regional one. It turns out that you don’t have to buy this “carrot”. Today, one minister will make a constructive proposal, tomorrow - another official will consider it illegal. It is hard to believe such a power.

Take, for example, the attitude of the Ukrainian regime towards the Minsk agreements. When it comes to their implementation, Kiev always begins to put forward additional conditions.

So, on the air of the ICTV channel, the Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko again touched on the topic of elections in the Donbass, which are provided for by the Minsk agreements. He said that these elections will take place after Russian troops are withdrawn. It only remains to add that the presence of Russian troops in the Donbass is not recognized by anyone other than Ukraine itself.

In the meantime - instead of elections, negotiations and language issues - shelling continues. On July 16, representatives of the DPR in the Joint Center for the Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire announced new shelling of the city of Dokuchaevsk, located near the contact line. July 14, a residential building was damaged. A civilian born in 1955 was injured. The villages of Golmovsky and Elenovka were also under fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to recent reports, late in the evening of July 16, Dokuchaevsk was again fired upon by Ukrainian punishers, resulting in damage to the apartment building and oil refinery.
