The Day Trump Lies Down Under Putin

1
The meeting of Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Helsinki, which became one of the leading topics in the media space even before it took place, caused a real information storm in America. The old myth of the alleged Russian interference in the presidential election in which Trump was elected found a new breath. Now the American president is stigmatized for “betrayal”, they claim that he “paid” with the Russian leader for “helping” in the victory in 2016, they even say that Trump is in Putin’s pocket.

So, this was actually the first serious meeting between Russia and the United States at the highest level, although its necessity was discussed a year and a half ago - as soon as Trump became president. After two hours of negotiations, a joint press conference was held, which created the impression that they were successful. The whole situation spoke of a possible “warming”: arms extended to each other, pats on the shoulder, exchange of gifts. Trump considered the conversation “deep”, “useful,” Putin complimented him, calling him “an opponent in the good sense of the word.”

At the same time, both leaders did not tell reporters about what specific agreements were reached. Unless, regarding the security of Israel, which both countries are ready to guarantee after the liberation of the southern regions of Syria from terrorists. Putin said that the situation in the Golan should be regulated in accordance with the 1974 agreement on the separation of forces. However, it would be naive to believe that in this situation the Russian leader would talk about the Syrian affiliation of the Golan. In other aspects of the Syrian issue, the parties limited themselves to general declarations.

One of the results can be considered that Putin and Trump decided to hold meetings more often. The Russian leader invited his colleague to reflect on the “philosophy” of long-term bilateral relations. He noted that this requires the involvement of experienced specialists in Russian-American relations from both countries and the formation of an expert council from them.

As for Trump, from his lips at the same time there were both reproaches to Moscow and criticism of Washington for the cooling between Russia and the USA, which has been observed in recent years.

In passing, he also touched on the issue of the notorious “interference in the elections”, while stating:

I have great confidence in my intelligence representatives, but I will tell you that President Putin was very convincing and strong in his objection today.

Basically, it was these words that caused fierce criticism and attacks in Washington. So, the notorious senator John McCain called Trump’s speech “one of the most shameful” and accused him of causing the country damage with “naivety”, “egoism” and “sympathy for autocrats”. McCain considers the meeting in Helsinki to be a "tragic mistake", and the press conference after it is a "miserable defeat."

Former CIA director John Brennan accused the US president of treason. "Republican Patriots, where are you?" He proclaimed on his Twitter blog.

The famous actor Arnold Schwarzenegger said that Trump stood at a briefing with Putin "like a little soaked pasta, like a little fan." The actor added that the US president framed intelligence, the justice system and the state as a whole.

CNN, referring to its own sources, said that they plan to interrogate Trump translator Marina Gross to find out what both leaders talked about face-to-face.

Not without curiosities. CNN journalist Kathleen Collins poured a lot of emotion over Putin’s plane arriving in Helsinki an hour and a half later than planned.

I am shocked that the president of the country, which is now under sanctions, makes the leader of the free world wait

She exclaimed, though “forgetting” to clarify what the sanctions and being late for.

She was silent about another important detail - Trump was 20 minutes late for the meeting, although he and his wife arrived in the capital of Finland the day before.

Since the meeting took place at a time when the hype around the World Cup was still there, “sports notes” were added to it. The leaders exchanged gifts: Trump presented Putin with a sweater belonging to the captain of the hockey club Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin, and he himself received a soccer ball from the mundial as a gift. After that, the US Republican Republican Senator Lindsay Graham made a proposal to check this ball for the presence of listening devices in it. Graham added that he would not have allowed this gift to enter the White House.

Summing up the meeting, the US president said:

Our relationship has never been worse than now. But that changed, 4 hours ago ... I will most likely take over political risk in order to achieve peace instead of risking

The question remains: did this watch really change the world, or is it nothing more than a loud statement? Ex-Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Federation Council Vladimir Lukin, in an interview with the publication “Vzglyad” described the negotiations as follows:

The first step was taken to start a dialogue - not loud screams standing with their backs to each other, but namely a dialogue on those fundamental issues

Lukin also welcomed the idea expressed by the President of Russia to create an expert council to discuss issues of bilateral relations. He stressed that it is important to include in this council very respected people whom the authorities of both countries would listen to. At the same time, the senator added that, in his opinion, it is unlikely that the general American rhetoric against Russia will soften, as, in particular, is the reaction to the past meeting within the United States.

    - The only "sense" from this "meeting" ... is that it became absolutely clear that ... that ... - it is useless to meet with such heads of state ... as Trump and "negotiate" something in general ...
-Yes and .., it seems that he does not have enough real power to take independent steps in world politics ...- he simply will not be allowed to do this by his own "American entourage" ...
-In this he reminds the Moldavian President Dodon ...
