Yandex strikes Google: "drone" is already on the roads of Moscow

Modern Technology make science fiction a reality. Artificial intelligence, invisibility cloaks, flying cars. All this is already in working prototypes today.

Actively developing vehicles with autopilot. How much could this simplify life and secure traffic. Just imagine: after a hard working day, you got into the salon of your own car, entered the destination and you can close your tired eyes, relaxing, knowing that the car will take you home. Non-resting cameras and sensors will monitor the road, nullifying the so-called human factor.

The development of the technology of unmanned vehicle control traditionally was the first to be launched by Western companies, in particular Google. But unexpectedly for many, the Russian innovation company Yandex was actively involved in the competition. The developments that Yandex has already managed to present deserve attention.

The autopilot from Yandex is universal, it does not matter to him, a large car or a small one, domestic or imported. The main condition is its modernity, the presence of electronic gas and brake pedals, an electric power steering and an automatic transmission. Yandex development is universal and the company wants to see its creation in the future presidential limousine of the Russian project "Cortege".

The electronic brains of the autopilot drive the car on a map with navigation, which reflects all the roads with their individual characteristics. The autopilot receives data on the state of the road in real time from a whole range of equipment: cameras, stereo cameras, radar, lidar, sensors, GPS / GLONASS receivers, inertial meters and sensors.

The autopilot instantly processes this data and makes decisions about starting a movement, cornering and stopping. Test rides in snowy Moscow showed that a car running Yandex autopilot is able to see a traffic signal even when it is not visible to the driver due to obstacles, knows how to go around pedestrians without slowing down, and also notices when it is necessary to skip cars that create interference from the right.

This is a great success of a domestic innovation company. Perhaps the iron is ready for Russian roads. But is a person mentally prepared, knowing that the steering wheel is turning and the robot is pedaling? Obviously, a lot of time will pass before unmanned vehicles will mass drive on our roads.
