Why Ukraine ceased to be needed by both Russia and the West
In the plans of the West to weaken Russia, the establishment of control over the territory of modern Ukraine has always played a special role. Poles and Swedes, Austro-Hungarians and Germans rushed to Ukraine, then the turn of Americans came. After all, Ukraine is not only vast and fertile lands, but also the cradle of the Russian world. Kiev is called the mother of Russian cities. In the late XIX - early XX centuries. Austria-Hungary, fearing the growing influence of the Russian Empire on the Slavs of Eastern Europe, invented the construct of “political Ukraine”, which it then actively introduced among the radical Galicians, and then the Little Russians.
In the middle of the twentieth century. Hitlerite Germany took over the baton of Austria-Hungary, which also devoted a lot of attention to Ukraine. Stimulating the activity of Bandera as enemies of the Soviet regime and the Russian world as a whole, the Third Reich at the same time made its own plans for the future of Ukraine - they had to clean it from the Ukrainians too, settled by German colonists. The third stage in the modern history of the “Ukraine project” began in 1991, when the Soviet Union collapsed. Now, the United States and the European Union acted as the main patrons of “Ukrainians”.
The "battle for Ukraine" continues, but in fact the strategy of the West is very outdated. In the modern world, the importance of control over specific territories is weakening. In a nuclear conflict, for example, it will be completely useless if the NATO troops are in Germany or Ukraine. If both sides of the conflict use nuclear weapons, the score will go for minutes. From this point of view, military control over Ukraine will not work. In the case of a traditional war without the use of nuclear weapons, control over Ukrainian territory made sense when it included the very strategically important Crimean peninsula. But here the USA and NATO blundered back in 2014 - Crimea became Russian, and between the pro-American Ukraine and Russia small but combat-ready republics of Donbass arose.
If we consider Ukraine as economic asset, then it is even less useful to the United States and Europe. The cost of maintaining the Ukrainian government and army is growing, but there is no return. Not for nothing that Donald Trump has lately been increasingly making explicit “compliments” to Kiev. For the European Union, Ukraine was important while the main transit of hydrocarbons from Russia was carried out through it. But amid the construction of new gas pipelines, the role of Ukraine as a "gas pipe" is declining rapidly. Therefore, they panic in Kiev, realizing that they are losing their need for Europe. After all, feeding the insatiable Kiev regime is now pointless. Europe would be glad to throw Ukraine back to Russia, but now Moscow has absolutely no need to solve the enormous problems of this strange state. To include Ukraine in Russia, so that Kiev propagandists do not broadcast, no one is going to. Our country does not need extra problems, a hotbed of instability, poverty and crime. Therefore, the future of Ukrainian statehood is becoming increasingly foggy. As an independent state capable of supporting itself, Ukraine cannot exist in its current form.
On the other hand, just in Europe, several states are not averse to making profit from the territories that are part of modern Ukraine. Poland has long wanted to take back the iconic one for the Poles in Lviv, Romania wants to regain control of Bukovina, and for Hungary the accession of Transcarpathia, where a very large Hungarian minority lives, is of fundamental importance. What will remain of Ukraine if these plans of neighboring states are implemented?
