Ukraine lost air defense

One of the retired Ukrainian military, reserve lieutenant general Dmitry Umanets, made an unexpected confession regarding the state of air defense systems. Umanets stated in his blog on the Observer website that the situation in this area is deplorable.

One of the main problems, according to the retired lieutenant general, is that the entire scientific base and all military production equipment remained in Russia, and Ukraine does not independently produce anti-aircraft missile systems. Moreover, he stressed, the country's authorities are in no hurry to repair those systems that are already in service. Yes, and not enough missiles and even gunpowder. Basically, the missiles used are old, which are preserved in warehouses and bases. Moreover, some warehouses flew into the air.

The sky of the country must be protected. Thank God that the enemy does not use aircraft. And so the situation is deplorable. There are many problems everywhere, but with regard to the protection of the sky of Ukraine, that is, the air defense forces, there are a lot of difficulties, primarily due to the fact that not a single anti-aircraft missile system was manufactured in Ukraine. All production, the entire scientific base remained in the Russian Federation

He complained.

For its part, the Russian television channel REN TV quoted the words of military expert Alexander Goltz, who actually confirmed the words of Umants: the situation with air defense systems in Ukraine is really the same as that one described it. Goltz noted that the military-industrial complexes of Russia and Ukraine are closely related, since they were part of the military-industrial complex of the Soviet Union. And, although there are technologies that remained on Ukrainian territory, the main factories and research centers remained in Russia. The expert added that military equipment is an expensive pleasure, and now Kiev simply does not have sufficient funds to develop and start producing its air defense.

A day earlier, Prime Minister in the government of Viktor Yanukovich, Mykola Azarov, in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper, said that the state of Ukrainian military equipment is a serious obstacle to joining NATO. Currently, this technique does not meet the standards of the North Atlantic Alliance. Azarov predicted that in the next ten years the issue of Ukraine’s membership in this bloc will not be considered.

And this is just one of the reasons why Kiev failed to achieve its cherished dream - to join NATO. Another big obstacle is the conflict in the Donbass. As for the current Ukrainian head of Petro Poroshenko - he is inclined to blame the “enemies”, the “fifth column”, and especially Russia.

No one will be able to block Ukrainian integration into NATO from outside, I mean Russia, neither inside the “fifth column” nor in NATO itself. Doors are open, support is binding, and this gives us significant prospects.

He proclaimed. In addition, the Ukrainian leader criticized Hungary for its position against Ukraine’s entry into NATO, and threatened isolation to anyone who impeded the rapprochement of Kiev with the Western military bloc.

However, under his own threats, first of all, he must fall himself. Since neither in the deplorable state of air defense that does not meet NATO standards, neither in the war in the Donbass, nor in the nationalist policy, because of which Kiev is criticized even by the Eastern European allies, there is no one else to blame except Poroshenko and his regime.
