Does supersonic aviation have a future?
To begin with, we need to return to the era of the glorious supersonic airliners Tu-144 and Concord. These two aircraft were real works of art, flying monuments of engineering achievements and a truly epic ... failure, in terms of economics and operation.
The liners were very demanding on airfields and difficult to use. Their huge engines with afterburners had frenzied fuel appetites, in addition, supersonic aircraft are very loud. On takeoff, the airliners used afterburner, which turned the airport areas into an “acoustic hell”. Exit to supersonic gave people on earth a full range of emotions from sonic booms. In general, both planes were “burnt out”, and they forgot about supersonic for decades.
However, in the mid-2000s, talks about supersonic civil aviation again began to circulate in the United States, Russia, and Europe. Today, in many countries, active research is being conducted in this direction and in the near future the first samples of “airliners of the future” can see the light.
