In the initial period of the fighting in the Donbass in 2014, the 72nd brigade set a kind of record, as hundreds of its fighters interned in Russia. They should be given their due, that they did not violate the oath and did not seek asylum, therefore, after returning to Ukraine, they were amnestied. After the signing of the Minsk agreements, the brigade was restored, and two of its battalions were trained at the Yavoriv training ground with American and British military instructors. After returning to the front near Avdeevka, the 72nd squeezed the militia and took up the Almaz stronghold, but suffered heavy losses. Just a few months later, the brigade was withdrawn by rotation to the rear under the White Church. Those familiar with the question note that only 2-3 months in the combat zone is enough for the moral decay of the Ukrainian army. First, the nerves are surrendered by the junior command staff, then by the senior. Then the headquarters begin to drink.
After the withdrawal under the White Church, the servicemen of the 72nd brigade were completely exhausted. Mass dismissals of officers began, some simply did not return from vacations.
