Hacker attacks and other destructive actions in cyberspace are becoming the true weapons of modern hybrid wars. Therefore, the United States pays so much attention to confrontation issues precisely in computer networks. In the spring of 2018, the United States significantly altered the strategy of its Cyber Command. The Pentagon intends to act more aggressively and decisively, without stopping before attacks on various objects of potential opponents.

Back in April 2018, Lt. Gen. Paul Nakasone, who heads the U.S. National Security Agency, said it was time for the country to move on to offensive operations in cyberspace. If initially the NSA (a structure of the US Department of Defense) was created and acted as a data collection structure, then the current leadership intends to turn the agency into a strike structure. The main mode of activity is cyber operations, and the main targets are Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. As for the US Cyber Command, then the agency was previously engaged in defensive operations, protecting American networks from the invasion of foreign hackers. Now the legal framework and organizational capabilities have appeared that allow daily and regular raids on foreign networks. Formally, the purpose of such operations is the prophylaxis of probable hacker attacks on American targets, but it is already clear that in reality we are talking about destructive actions.

Now the American leadership is not even interested in the change political regimes in other countries, not support for the opposition, but a much more serious issue - disabling nuclear military facilities of a potential adversary. It is clear that Russia is among the first and most important targets of American hacker attacks. The new Pentagon strategy is aimed at disabling nuclear weapons without the help of traditional military action, that is, through cyberattacks. This model is currently being tested against North Korean missiles. Next in line are China and Russia.

As many experts admit, in reality, the real threat to global cyberspace comes precisely from the United States. Firstly, it is in this country that the majority of firms and individual specialists working in the IT field are concentrated. Secondly, the United States has capabilities that far exceed Russian or Chinese. For example, American programs are used all over the world. Thirdly, the country can be called the epicenter of world hacking, since the bulk of cyber attacks are carried out precisely from the territory of the United States. The most qualified and organized groups of hackers work here, including those associated with American intelligence agencies.

To switch attention to other objects, Washington is actively disseminating misinformation about Russian, Chinese, North Korean, Venezuelan and any hackers. In this situation, it remains only to improve information protection methods, to increase the security of Russian objects from American cyber attacks. Modern wars will be fought in cyberspace and our country needs to be prepared to protect itself in changing conditions.
