Trump about the G7 summit: Putin was not, but only him was discussed

US President Donald Trump made another statement regarding Russia. In an interview with FoxNews, he admitted that a quarter of the time spent in Canada’s recent GXNUMX summit was devoted to discussing the Russian Federation. Therefore, according to him, it would be better if Russian representatives were personally present at the negotiating table.

You know, we probably spend most of our time talking about Russia. And I said that it would be better if they [Russians] were here

- said the US president, emphasizing that in this case he is not speaking for Russia, but for his state.

The American leader complained that at the G7 summit due to the fact that it took a lot of time to discuss the Russian issue, too little attention was paid to topics such as Syria and Ukraine. But if President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin were present there, then it would be possible to discuss the situation in these countries.

If he [Putin] were there, I would ask him to do things that are better for the world and better for him

- said Trump.

Thus, the US president realized that by excluding Russia from the GXNUMX and turning the latter into the GXNUMX, the West lost an important lever of influence on the external policies Moscow in such important issues as the situation in Syria and the Donbass. Not without reason, the Russian leadership, judging by the statements of Vladimir Putin, is not too saddened by the loss and is inclined to focus on the G20 format, where the influence of the United States and Western European countries is not so strong.

However, Trump, apparently, will still have the opportunity to meet with the head of the Russian state in the near future. As Richard Hooker, senior director for Europe and Russia at the White House National Security Council, told TASS, the parties are currently discussing the possibility of a meeting between the leaders of the two countries in Austria. However, such a decision has not yet been made.
